International Meeting HABITAT III + 2 “Quito, laboratory of cities of the New Urban Agenda”
Two years after the Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, Habitat III, Quito will be the center of the international debate on urban solutions towards the construction of sustainable cities.
The privileged position of local and regional governments allows articulating the levels of the public, private and civil society sectors and strengthening the means of execution in order to revitalize the global global alliance for sustainable development.
Quito is a fertile territory for the innovative proposals of the New Urban Agenda (NAU) and the location of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ongoing projects within the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito can add learning opportunities and exchange of good practices among local governments.
Two years after the Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, Habitat III, Quito will be the center of the international debate on urban solutions towards the construction of sustainable cities.
With the support of UN Habitat, the capital of Ecuador is presented as a laboratory city for the implementation of the NAU in the region. Quito will be one of the 13 cities in the world
which commemorates Metropolitan Day to discuss the challenges of governance in metropolitan territories.
During the three days of the event, an agenda coordinated by the Directorate of International Relations of the Municipality of Quito will be developed with the support of the UCCI (Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities) and the Madrid City Council; FAMSI (Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity); UCLG and other international partners. Representatives of local governments, city networks, international organizations, academia, civil society and citizens in general will participate in the International Meeting.
